How can you become a better Storyteller, and dig out the stories that are all around you?

I firmly believe the best storytellers of our time have earned their accolades as a result of years of practice.

So how to you practice storytelling? I think one of the best ways is through journaling.

Journaling is a sacred practice for many people who just need an outlet for the creative ideas, jumbled thoughts, and excessive words running around in their heads.

But journaling isn’t just about a brain dump — it’s about creating awareness.

Awareness is really the secret key that unlocks the golden door to storytelling.

Unfortunately, far too many people are running around in today’s world so busy being busy, they have no idea what’s happening around them, and they are clueless to the amazing stories that are staring them right in the face.

I believe storytelling is important for a lot of reasons — but fundamentally, if we can teach people to be better storytellers, we inherently will awaken their senses help them realize life is not about them.

With awareness comes maturity, evolution, growth, and more kindness & love.

With awareness, we can bear witness to the pain in the world and hold it in the same breath of all the beauty that surrounds it.

With awareness, we can honor other people’s differences and beliefs without feeling threatened or defensive.

With awareness, we can pay attention to how others feel, we can celebrate other people’s victories , and we can hold space for other people to grieve.

And in all of that awareness…. beautiful, rich stories of humanity arise.

I’ve long been fascinated with the world of storytelling for this very aspect.

Stories connect us on a human level. There’s no discrimination here… no boundaries…. no barriers…. only emotions that tie us all together. We all feel the same things. Emotional Language is the only language every human on the planet speaks…. and through storytelling, we can connect on an emotional level.

And it all starts with Awareness.

And Awareness is sharpened by practices like daily journaling.

Which brings me back to the point I wanted to make about how you become a better storyteller. Start by pulling out a journal and start jotting down things you encountered in your day.

GET STARTED WITH THESE JOURNAL PROMPTS:

  • What went well today?
  • What didn’t go so well?
  • What experiences in your past have shaped you?
  • What or WHO are you grateful for?
  • Where in your life have you experienced a transformation?
  • How did the experience make you feel?
  • What are some of your dreams and aspirations?
  • Where did you find JOY in your day?
  • Where did you experience discomfort or anguish?

These types of questions will open the door to a level of awareness you may not have experienced before.

Start right there… in the pages of a journal and go on a journey of self discovery and awakening.
